FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grand pianos, uprights, digital pianos, violins, violas and cellos will be sold at significant discounts, with proceeds supporting the JMU School of Music.
HARRISONBURG, Va. — September 14, 2026 — The Rockley Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports music education, will hold the James Madison University Musical Instrument Sale Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 8–10, at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts, 147 Warsaw Ave., on the JMU campus. Musical instruments provided to music departments or otherwise made available will be sold at a significant discount from manufacturers’ retail pricing, and the program directly supports the JMU School of Music.
A large selection of grand pianos, baby grands, digital player grands, vertical (upright) pianos, hybrid pianos, digital pianos, violins, violas and cellos will be available, ranging from starter to professional level and including instruments from makers such as Steinway & Sons, Yamaha, Bösendorfer, Seiler, Roland and Italia Violins. Most instruments are less than one year old, include a 5–10-year service contract, and are tuned and ready to enjoy.
“Families in the Shenandoah Valley rarely get a chance to see this many fine instruments in one room, and every purchase helps the JMU School of Music,” said Tobin Rockley, Director/President of the Rockley Family Foundation. “Whether someone is buying a first piano for a child or a concert grand for a lifetime, they leave with a great instrument and the knowledge that they supported music education.”
Private appointments are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8–10, and give buyers priority selection and price reductions before the public sale opens. Appointments can be scheduled at rockleyfamilyfoundation.org/JMU or by calling or texting 540-902-8225. Virtual appointments via Zoom are available on request. The final sale day, Saturday, Oct. 10, is open to the public from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no appointment needed. Parking is available in the Warsaw Parking Deck.
Delivery and special no-interest financing are available on-site. In most cases, a substantial portion of a purchase may be considered a charitable contribution to the Rockley Family Foundation and may be tax deductible; buyers should consult their own tax adviser regarding the deductibility of any contribution.

About the Rockley Family Foundation
The Rockley Family Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides the donated use of musical instruments, the outright donation of musical instruments and educational materials, and monetary resources that fund outreach support and scholarships. Since 2009, more than $30 million in donations have been made through the foundation to deserving nonprofit and educational organizations. Each year the foundation conducts dozens of fundraising events in partnership with musical nonprofit and educational organizations, selling gently used musical instruments to local communities; each event is mutually beneficial to the hosting organization and ultimately supports music education programs across the country.
